I will be updating this site later on today with a lot of new material about the show,

I mentioned in the previous post the animated series is now being turned into a film - this still holds true. As part of this process, vast swathes of material are being cut out.

On the one hand, it is saddening to get rid of shots that have taken days to do, or remove a whole scene. On the other hand, however, it is good to trim down the show to something funnier, tighter and faster.

I watched through a rough of several parts of the series a few days ago and realised that some parts simply weren't funny and had no reason to exist. It doesn't matter how long these parts took to make - if they are bringing everything else down, they have to go.

Another point to consider during transition from animated series to film is relevancy. Before, it may have been appropriate to dedicate an entire episode to a supporting character to develop them - in the film cut, it is no longer acceptable to have 20 minutes focussing on Mr Man or the prison warden. Characters have to justify their existence in the film through their actions having an effect or message on/for the main characters.

I do feel guilty cutting out material. One reason is that a lot of the material that is being cut is in the form of new jokes, and when the film comes out it may feel very recycled from the old episodes now. That's because it is. More than half of the material that has stayed is from previous episodes now. I'd like to say that the deleted material would see the light of day somehow, perhaps as extras on a DVD, but this depends on how much time I have left at the end of the project to polish it. I would not dream of putting unfinished animation on a DVD. In my eyes, the deleted scenes would have to be as well edited etc... as the main feature.

For reference, the main "promised" material that has been cut, right now, includes: A 24 spoof and a musical number by Mark, Robert, Paton and William. Lots of other small cuts have been made, but the 24 spoof and song are two things I have been touting as things to look forward to in the new series. They simply didn't have a place in the new world of Milk Paton. Other casualties include things that nobody will be sad to see removed: Milk Paton's birthday from the old QWERTY episode, the radio scenes from the QWERTY episode, etc...

For anyone disheartened by the above news, the new film does offer a lot of new stuff: we find out about Milk Paton's previous life in Glazgo and his mum - MILF Paton. We see the boys fighting Prehistoric Terrorist Arrows, and there is a new and improved car chase which outdoes every car chase ever made ever. The Geometric Story Teller gets his super happy play hut, there's a boxing match, Robert ends up with Mark's girlfriend - all of this is mixed in with the old stories: the Terrorist Arrows still raid the school, an iMac still gets thrown out the window, QWERTY are still in it. It's a mix of old and new. I hate to say this, because it seems disrespectful to our small but loyal fan base, but we've had to think about the larger picture - most people have NEVER seen any Milk Paton, so to them, it seems all new. It would be stupid of us to throw out 3 years of jokes and scenarios for this reboot.

88 days until launch!

Today... 3rd January

Hello everyone, time for some 'bad' news...

Despite a post to the contrary on New Years Eve, the show will not be moving to 1920x1440. The work involved is simply too comprehensive. We also, sadly, will not be moving the project to 3D entirely, as I am disappointed with the currently available 3D technology - mainly it's colour reproduction. The technology/methods used to make high end 3D used in cinemas (and indeed view them) is too expensive/time consuming at the time being.

In the final project it seems more likely that certain parts of the experience would be 3D.

Perhaps an indicator may come up on screen showing the need to put on 3D glasses, and certain segments may be rendered in 3D using ColorCode 3D technology. A gimmick, to be sure - but the whole project is in a way, full of gimmicks what with the subtitles and animation style.

I'm sure I can come up with some in-show, 4th wall breaking explanation as to why only parts are in 3D.

In addition, a lot of material is being cut and the the project is being turned into a feature film of around 2 hours in length. The project needs to be wrapped up so I can move on with my life, and I think the easiest way to monetize it would be as a feature film. The parts that are getting cut, specifically, include a 24 spoof - which I felt was contrived in any case. Some rewriting will occur, and parts of episodes about supplementary characters such as Mr Man and the prison warden will be cut to create a more streamlined narrative.

Chopping down the project is, in a way, a blessing - it allows weaker material to be removed, drastically reduces my workload and means the project will be completed sooner.

Today... 31st December

Hi everyone, this is a post from Drew. I'm the main force behind Milk Paton. I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who turned out to see the recent rerun of old episodes. I've left the 'unseen episode' available for now as a link in the previous post for anyone who missed it.

The new series consists of 7 episodes, 5 of them are pretty far along and the remaining 2 are almost accounted for. I am considering shooting to get another 2 episodes done as I have enough ideas for them and I'd like to finish the whole Milk Paton thing in one fell swoop over the course of 2010.

In a few days, I will continue working on the outstanding episodes of the show. Whilst continuing the work on them, I will be moving parts already completed over to 1920x1440 HD, and - to 3D.

There is still a lot of work to go, and I feel that moving to 3D is almost like beginning anew; but I am confident it will be worth it!
